1 Mr Peter Lederer, OBE – Chairman
Managing Director of Gleneagles Hotel, he was appointed Chairman for a three-year tenure in April 2001, having been a board member since 1995. He has a strong background in the hospitality sector and a passion for improving standards across the tourism industry through education and training. He is Chairman of the Hospitality Industry Trust Scotland. In addition, he is a trustee of Springboard Charitable Trust, which helps people into tourism and hospitality careers. He is also on the board of the Consignia Advisory Board for Scotland and patron of The Queen Margaret University College Foundation.

2 Mr Michael Cantlay – Vice Chairman
Chairman and Managing Director of Hector Russell Limited, which operates a chain of fifteen kilt and tartan specialist retail outlets in Scotland, the US and Canada and a further ten specialist whisky stores. He became Vice Chairman of VisitScotland in April 2001. He has served as a board member of the Argyll, the Isles, Loch Lomond, Stirling and Trossachs Tourist Board, as Chairman of Scottish Enterprise Forth Valley and additionally as an advisory board member of Scottish Enterprise. He has also been appointed to the inaugural board of the Loch Lomond and The Trossachs National Park and he serves as a Governor of the Scottish Tartans Authority.

3 Mrs Sheena Kitchin
Was the Founder and Managing Director of Destination Scotland Limited which specialised in corporate tourism to Scotland. She is a Director of Destination Marketing Services Limited which provides consultancy to tourism businesses. A Fellow of the Tourism Society, she has a background steeped in tourism thanks to spells as Chair of the Scottish Region of the British Incoming Tour Operators Association (BITOA) and as a board member on the former Greater Glasgow Tourist Board. She’s a former member of the Scottish Tourism Forum and a current member of the Society of Incentive and Travel Executives.

4 Councillor Donald Anderson
Has been Leader of City of Edinburgh Council since 1999. A former Chair of Edinburgh and Lothians Tourist Board his tourism knowledge is extensive. He was the first City of Edinburgh Councillor to be on both the Edinburgh Festival Fringe board and the Edinburgh International Festival board simultaneously. He stepped down from the latter in 2002. He currently serves on the board of the Edinburgh City Centre Company and is Chair of Edinburgh Council Holdings, the holding company for all Council companies. In the past he has also held the positions of Chairman at the Edinburgh International Conference Centre and of the Edinburgh International Science Festival.

5 Mrs Pat Buchanan
Proprietor of the Dunbeath Hotel, Dunbeath, Caithness. Has an in-depth knowledge of tourism having worked in the accommodation sector for many years. She is Chairman of Caithness and Sutherland Enterprise and Vice Chairman of the Highlands of Scotland Tourist Board. Active in tourism and economic development fora she Chairs the Northern Highlands Forum and is a member of the Ministerial Taskforce for Local Economic Forums. She is involved with European Community Initiatives aimed at strengthening rural communities and diversifying local economies and has contributed to the examination and review of rural policy through the European Commission and OECD. Board Member of Inverness Highland 2008 formed to promote the City Region’s bid to be European Capital of Culture. Contributed to the first Scottish Biodiversity Forum and has a specific interest in tourism and the environment issues.

6 Mr Donal Dowds
Has a strong tourism pedigree thanks to his work at Glasgow and Edinburgh airports and in his current position as Managing Director of BAA Scottish Airports. He is Chairman of the Scottish Council for Development and Industry (SCDI), a member of the Secretary of State’s Friends of Scotland Advisory Group and Vice Chairman of the Airport Operators Association. He is a former Vice Chairman of Edinburgh and Lothians Tourist Board, former council member of the Scottish Tourism Forum and former member of Greater Glasgow and Clyde Valley Tourist Board. He has also served on the board of Scottish Enterprise Renfrewshire.

7 Mr Brian Houston
A management consultant and board advisor, he was formerly a board director of the PA Consulting Group. He served as Chairman and CEO of PA’s European practices and as CEO of worldwide strategy consulting. The early part of his career was spent as a manager and consultant with several Scottish companies and public bodies before spending 15 years living and working in Europe, Asia and the US consulting multinational clients in strategy development, management of major business transformations and the coaching and development of boards and management teams. He took over from Peter Lederer as Chairman of the Tourism People Group. He is also currently Chairman of the RB Farquhar Group of companies in Aberdeenshire.
